J for Join a Group – A to Z Challenge

The best thing about crafting is sharing what you make and learn. And the best way of doing that to to join a group.

There are lots of group all over the place. Start by looking in the crafting magazines, or the local library. You will find local groups, some which are just for knitting, some for sewing, some for everything.

There are on line groups like www.ravelry.com which is dedicated to knitting, and quick search will result in many more.

My Mom runs such a group (or 4) she plans projects every 6 weeks, and the rest of the time you can do what you like. she is there to help and guide. I usually join in when I can and when I have a large project that need help.

If you can’t commit to every week or month, some craft shops run drop in sessions, or alternative go on a workshop, crafting day, or join the crafting sessions that are run at the large craft shows.

Joining a group of like minded people is exciting and very rewarding. you will learn something, be inspired and have a good time. and if not there will probably be a cup of coffee for you to enjoy.

What are you waiting for? be inspired and make new friends.

B for Buttons – A to Z Challenge

I love buttons. There is something satisfying about riffling through a tin of buttons. It’s like choosing your favourite sweets with less calories.

As you can imagine I have a lot of buttons. some are standard shirt buttons, some are fancy wooden ones with writing or shapes. Extra large or tiny I have them.

The question is, What do i do with them? Well apart for look at them and collect more, there is a range of things to do with a button.

  • Embellishment
  • Functional – holding things together like shirt openings
  • card making
  • covering up a mistakes when sewing – whoops

The list is endless.

I know crafter’s who put a button on everything they make, and on the other hand there are a group of people who can not touch a button, and therefore wear clothes with zips or no fastenings.

Buttons to are magical.

March Round up

March weather was very mixed in the UK. we had snow, frost, rain, the march winds and glorious sunshine.

Me and my husband Stuart, cleared out the green house and moved the veg plots so they are more acceptable and easier to use. I am hoping for bumper crops this year.

My 1st month at slimming world I have lost 1/2 stone in weight, loosing about 1 1/2 pounds a week. I feel healthier and have more energy. 🙂

We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary, (no chocolate, but a glass of wine was nice), and we had a lovely relaxing weekend near Ludlow. Check out Ludow food centre, yummy.

Both the craft workshops went well, and the craft fair was brilliant, lot of people buying our stuff. the demo’s i did were good fun also, if now stressful with the prep, and my family were in the audience.

I have signed up for the April A to Z Challenge. every day (expect Sundays) you blog, starting at A, So 1st +A, 2nd + B, and so on.

There are two workshops this month. Beginners Patchwork (which is full) and Learn to make Lace with a needle or Tatting. places left.

And i have another girls day out. Me my Mom and Sister are going to Wonderwool in Wales on 27th. As we spin and weave it is a specialist show just for wool lovers (but any one can go) . I have saved some money and have a couple of projects that i need to buy for. I am so excited

Again lot of things are happening this month, but with the extra hour as the clocks have changed i should fit it all in.

January round up

So January here in the UK was wet and damp but not overly cold.

I finished the arm of my husbands jumper (12 month project so far), found a charity project to do, and bought a book on faire isle knitting.

The knitting workshop was a great success and there are photos on Facebook.

over all a great month!

I start my crafting Olympic challenge (More on another post)

I have decided to do the craft network challenge

Love is in the air on valentines day, I have a girls day with my Mom and sister, sewing machine at the ready.

I will also be running a crochet workshop 2 days as it is so popular I had to open a next day.

over all a busy month and there are only 28 days in it.

Random moments of delight challenge

As part of the Zero to Hero challenge , they asked to join another challenge (as if I don’t have enough to do)

So having looked at the possibilities which were not endless, I found myself disappointed at the selection. My blog is about crafting and there wasn’t anything in this category. So in the end I chose random-moments-of-delight-challenge. Mainly because crafting has moments of delight as well as the disasters.

My moment of delight today is a new book on fair isle knitting.

I have knitted for most of my life and my Mom often tells of the time I first discovered knitting needles, not to mention I couldn’t get my tension right (to tight) so she gave me cotton the knit with, (it gets tighter on the needles the more you knit, because it doesn’t stretch like wool. In the end you can’t move the stitches and have to start again) did I mention my Mom believes in tough love LOL.

I have never mastered knitting in two colours so decided for 2014 i was going to teach my self. The book has arrived, now to find some wool and needles.

Let the learning commence.
